Student's Ford KA after the collision.

A “RECKLESS” driver injured three Sheffield Hallam students in a car accident on Thursday after running a stop sign on Sidney Street, Sheffield.
Nikkita Taylor, aged 21, was driving along Matilda Street with passengers, Rachel Allen, 20, and Joe Price, 21, when her Ford Ka collided with 27-year-old Sharon Missing’s silver Vauxhall Tigra.
Miss Taylor said: “The car came out of nowhere. It just pulled out from a side street at the last minute and there was nothing I could do – it all happened so quickly.”
Witness, John Deakin, 31, of Junction Road, Sheffield, called the police and emergency services who arrived within minutes. He said: “I saw the whole thing; I rushed over to the Ford Ka to check that the passengers were okay. The front of the car was crushed; smoke was coming from the bonnet and the radiator burst all over the road.”
The three students were taken to Northern General Hospital by ambulance where whiplash injuries were confirmed.
Paramedic at the scene, Paul Barratt, said: “It was important that all three passengers were checked over by a doctor to prevent any long term neck or spinal damage – the impact of the crash was quite forceful.”
No major injuries were sustained; however, Nikkita's head made contact with the steering wheel after the airbag failed to release and Rachel was left with bruising across her chest and ribcage.
PC Anna Shepherd, from Snig Hill Police Station described Missing’s driving as both “dangerous” and “careless.” She stated: “We will be taking statements from the people involved, including Mr. Deakin who witnessed the incident from the roadside. Necessary action will then be taken against Sharon Missing.”
Mr. Price said: “I’m really thankful that we’re all okay – we were really lucky not to be seriously injured.”
Miss Missing refused to comment on the incident.
