Residents have been given the opportunity to improve the area outside Stocksbridge library following a grant from Sheffield City Council.
The residents are working alongside the Thriving District and Local Centre, a scheme set up by the council and have been given £50,000 to do this.

Jonathan Ulley, part of the TDLC scheme said:
“We’re in the process of putting together a plan to improve the area in front of the library. By getting everyone actively involved we can create a place that is nice and something that the residents can be proud of. Its really exciting to be working alongside the residents, getting their view on what they want to see and how they want the space to be used.”
The residents have been asked to draw up a plan, where they will decide what needs to be done to improve the space, which currently has flower boxes, a bench and uneven paving.
Lesley Smith, a resident in Stocksbridge said:
“I’ve seen people on mobility scooters having to weave in and out of the obstacles in front of the library to get about. I’m looking forward to seeing how the area will be improved.”
Once a decision has been made that all residents are happy with, a final proposition will be given to the council. Work is expected to begin in the summer, lasting up to 12 months.
